The Trenton Veterans Memorial Library is set to ignite imagination and discovery with its 2025 Children’s Summer Reading Program, themed “Color Our World.” Running from June 2 through August 2, this year’s program is designed to keep Kindergarten through 5th-grade readers excited about books, creativity, and exploration all summer long.
📚 A Reading Program That Rewards Imagination
At the heart of the program is a clear goal: make reading fun, rewarding, and consistent. Children will track their reading through the READSquared platform, earning prizes at key milestones:
-
🎯 3 hours of reading = Prize
-
🎯 7 hours of reading = Prize
-
🎯 13 hours of reading = Prize
Once a child completes the full 15-hour challenge, they can earn up to seven raffle tickets to enter into themed prize basket drawings. Each basket is tailored to different age groups, ensuring relevant and exciting rewards for every participant.
Parents can register their children online starting June 2, and all reading logs must be submitted by 5 PM on August 2.
🎉 Events that Bring the Theme to Life
The program isn’t just about reading—it’s about engagement, creativity, and hands-on fun. The library has planned a colorful lineup of events to complement the “Color Our World” theme. Some highlights include:
-
🎨 Messy Art Day – Creative chaos encouraged
-
🎵 Ms. Mariah’s Music – Storytelling through sound and rhythm
-
👕 Tie Dye Crafts
-
📚 Woven Bookmark Making
-
🔭 DIY Kaleidoscopes
-
🍭 Cotton Candy Science – Where sweet meets science!
All events are free but may have limited capacity, so early online registration is encouraged.
The summer concludes with a celebratory End of Summer Reading Party, where participants are recognized for their accomplishments and enjoy one last burst of library-fueled fun.
📝 Reading on Their Terms
To ensure inclusivity, all types of reading materials count toward time goals:
-
📖 Books
-
📘 Graphic novels
-
📑 Magazines
-
🎧 Audiobooks
-
💻 eBooks
This flexible approach empowers kids to engage in the format that excites them most.
🏆 Prizes, Partners & Community Support
The program’s prizes are made possible thanks to generous contributions from:
-
🫶 The Friends of the Trenton Veterans Memorial Library
-
🍦 Local favorite Custard Corner
The final prize raffle drawing will take place on Monday, August 4, giving kids something to look forward to even after the last page is turned.
