As May begins, communities across the country are preparing for Teacher Appreciation Week 2025, taking place from May 5–9. While thank-you notes and kind words remain important, this year’s theme—“Turning Appreciation Into Action”—calls on Americans to do more than express gratitude.

The National Education Association (NEA) is urging communities to support teachers not just with words, but with advocacy and meaningful support that strengthens public education and benefits students nationwide.

📅 National Teacher Day: May 6

Falling within the week is National Teacher Day on Tuesday, May 6—a key moment for schools and communities to celebrate and spotlight educators. However, the NEA emphasizes that true appreciation must extend beyond a single day.

In 2025, the message is clear: teachers need more than applause—they need action.

💬 From Social Posts to Policy Change

There are many ways to turn appreciation into impactful support:

📱 Use Your Voice on Social Media
  • Share personal stories of great teachers

  • Highlight the need for increased school funding

  • Use hashtags like #ThankATeacher to amplify awareness

🗳️ Contact Your Elected Officials
  • Advocate for better pay, reasonable class sizes, and more classroom resources

  • Send emails, make calls, or write letters to your Representatives and Senators

  • Share NEA messaging to support education-forward legislation

As NEA President Becky Pringle reminds us, “Our educators deserve not just our thanks, but our commitment to creating environments where they can thrive.”

💪 Community Action = Student Success

This year’s Teacher Appreciation Week reminds us that the best way to support students is by supporting those who teach them. From policy advocacy to public awareness, each action you take helps build a stronger, more equitable education system.
