Island Living Grosse Ile

Grosse Ile, MI Community

Grosse Ile is a community that thrives on connection and mutual support, and a key part of that is looking out for our neighbors. Food drives and local charities play a vital role in ensuring everyone in our area has access to basic necessities. A few cans of soup or a financial contribution truly makes a difference in strengthening our community fabric and providing a safety net for those facing challenges.

This guide is designed to make it easy for you to contribute to organizations that are actively serving Grosse Ile and the surrounding Downriver communities. We’ve gathered information on local charities and food pantries so you can find the perfect way to lend a hand. Our aim is to highlight the incredible work being done right here and encourage everyone to participate in building a more resilient and caring Grosse Ile for all.

Gleaners Food Drive at Trenton Veterans Memorial Library

The Trenton Veterans Memorial Library supports Gleaners Food Drive year-round. Visitors can drop off canned goods and nonperishable items in boxes labeled “Gleaners” near the front entrance. All donations collected are distributed through the Gleaners Community Food Bank, which helps feed families across Wayne County and Southeast Michigan.

Community Grown Gardens

Community Grown Gardens, at 29320 Middlebelt Rd in Garden City, is another meaningful way to contribute. For every $3 donated, one pound of fresh, locally grown produce is delivered to a food organization helping people in need.

Financial gifts also fund their STEM and transition learning programs—$50 supports a month of materials, while $100 sponsors an hour of hands-on instruction. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all donations are tax-deductible.
For more details or to sponsor their educational efforts, call (734) 237-3149 or visit their website.
