Grosse Ile Township is preparing for an exceptional year of environmental engagement in 2025, with a detailed calendar of nature-focused events designed to educate, inspire, and connect the community with the island’s natural assets. The newly released schedule features dozens of activities across all four seasons, offering opportunities to learn about local ecosystems and take part in hands-on conservation efforts.

Community Partnerships Driving the Mission

The Grosse Ile Nature and Land Conservancy (GINLC) has teamed up with local organizations, including Wild Birds Unlimited of Woodhaven and the Kiwanis Club of Grosse Ile, to offer a diverse lineup of events. From educational talks and workshops to nature hikes and clean-up initiatives, the 2025 calendar includes something for all ages and interests.

These events strengthen environmental awareness and build stronger community bonds.

 Earth Day 2025: The Highlight of the Year

The Earth Day 2025 celebration will be the crown jewel of the year’s programming. Set for Sunday, April 27, at the John C. Jackson Resource Center, the event will feature:

  • Presentations by Victoria Czapski (Priority Waste) on waste reduction

  • A talk from Natalie Cypher (Wild Ones Wayne County) on native plants

  • Take-home crafts for families

  •  A raffle for GINLC merchandise

A Full Week of Earth Day Activities

Earth Day celebrations extend throughout late April, with several key events:

  • Tuesday, April 22 (Official Earth Day): Oriole Talk by Wild Birds Unlimited

  • Saturday, April 26: Annual Island Cleanup by the Kiwanis Club

These events are designed to promote environmental preservation and community beautification.

 Spring Events: Learning Through Exploration

Spring kicks off with:

  • May 3: “Creepy Crawlies” Exploration at Grosse Ile Bird Sanctuary

  • May 20: Bird Conservation Presentation by Wild Birds Unlimited

These events are geared toward curious minds of all ages, combining education with interactive experiences.

 Summer Programming: Stewardship in Action

As summer arrives, programs turn toward practical environmental care:

  • June 14: Native Tree Care & Composting Workshop with Doug Theil and Johanne Wilson

  • July 19: Sustainable Landscapes Walk-through

  • July 26: Guided Nature Hike at the Airport Natural Area
